Every hour you save packing is an hour you do not pay for. These are the tips we repeat on nearly every job around Wigan, Leigh and Bolton.
Boxes and weight
Small boxes for heavy things, large boxes for light things. It sounds obvious; almost nobody does it.
- Books and tins in small boxes only
- Duvets, pillows and coats in the biggest boxes you have
- Tape the base in a cross, never a single strip
- Fill gaps so boxes stack square and do not crush
Label for unloading, not packing
Write the destination room on the top and one side of every box. Colour-coded stickers work even faster because a mover can read them from the van door.
Fragile items and awkward things
Plates travel on their edge, not flat. Glasses go in a box with dividers or wrapped individually in paper. TVs travel upright in their original box where possible, or blanket-wrapped and strapped to the van wall.
- Bag and tape screws to the furniture they came from
- Keep cables in a labelled freezer bag per device
- Wardrobe clothes stay on hangers in bin bags with the hooks poking out
- Photograph flat-pack assembly before dismantling
Frequently asked questions
How many boxes do I need for a two-bedroom house?
Around 30–40 medium boxes plus 5–10 large ones for bedding and clothes is a realistic starting point for a two-bed house.
Can you pack for me?
Yes. Our packing service covers full-home packing or just the kitchen and fragile items, usually the day before your move.
