Flats are the job most removal companies price badly. Stairs, narrow landings and lift bookings are all time, and time is what an hourly rate is made of. Our approach is to publish the surcharge so there is nothing to argue about at the door.
The floor surcharge, in plain English
Where there is no lift, we add £10 per floor per mover. First floor is £10 per mover, second £20, third £30 and so on. Two movers on a second floor means £40 added to the job — not to every hour.
- Ground floor — no surcharge
- Working lift — no surcharge, whatever the floor
- House stairs — always included
Book the service lift early
Managed blocks in Manchester, Salford and Wigan town centre often require a lift booking and a loading bay slot. Ask the concierge a week ahead, get the slot in writing, and tell us the window — we plan the run around it.
Furniture that fights back
Corner sofas, king mattresses and wardrobes are the usual problems in modern flats. We dismantle bed frames and flat-pack wardrobes as standard, and sofas often go feet-off and on their end through the stairwell. Measure the narrowest turn before you buy anything large.
Frequently asked questions
Do you charge extra for a lift in a block of flats?
No. If the lift is working and available, there is no surcharge regardless of which floor you are on.
What if the lift is out of service on the day?
We fall back to the published per-floor rate of £10 per floor per mover, and we tell you before we start carrying.
